SERMON NOTES WITH APPLICATION
“I WANT TO GET BEHIND THE VEIL” PT I
1 Corinthians 2:6–10 (MSG)Theme: Hidden Manna
🎯 CENTRAL IDEA:
Getting behind the veil means moving beyond surface-level religion into a spiritual life guided by God’s Spirit — where we begin to see what God is doing and live in tune with His purposes.
Paul says God’s wisdom is not trendy or human-made; it’s deep, spiritual, and revealed by the Holy Spirit. To experience it, we must let God shift how we see, expect, and act.
POINT 1: SHIFT YOUR PERSPECTIVE (vv. 6–7)
“God’s wisdom is something mysterious that goes deep into the interior of His purposes...”
Meaning:
The world chases popular wisdom — trends, experts, and quick answers. But God’s wisdom isn’t surface-level; it’s spiritual and eternal. To “get behind the veil,” we must start seeing life from God’s point of view instead of the world’s.
For Believers:
Stop living by headlines and start living by the Spirit’s insight. When you pray, don’t just ask “What should I do?”Ask “What is God showing me beneath the surface?”
For Seekers:
God invites you into a deeper understanding of life — not just rules, but relationship. There’s more than what meets the eye; behind every moment, God is working for your good.
Practical Application:
Practice spiritual grounding — prayer, Scripture, silence.
When confusion comes, pause and ask, “What might God be teaching me underneath this?”
Be open to God’s mystery; not everything that’s real is visible.
POINT 2: SHIFT YOUR EXPECTATIONS (vv. 8–9)
“No one’s ever seen or heard anything like this... what God has arranged for those who love Him.”
Meaning:
The rulers and “experts” of the world missed Jesus because they didn’t expect God to work through the cross.Sometimes our expectations are too small — we expect comfort, not transformation.
For Believers:
Don’t expect God to always move in familiar ways. Sometimes pain, loss, or delay are the diving boards that push you into destiny.
Like Dr. Claudette Copeland’s story — you may not jump willingly, but God will sometimes send a “Beth Block”moment to push you in! God’s push is not punishment; it’s preparation.
For Seekers:
You may not understand everything about faith yet — but don’t close your heart. What God has prepared for you is bigger than you can imagine.
Practical Application:
Expect God’s surprises — not everything new is bad.
When plans fall apart, say, “Maybe this is my push.”
Stretch your imagination: believe that better is possible, not because you can plan it, but because God has prepared it.
POINT 3: SHIFT YOUR ACTIONS (v. 10)
“The Spirit... dives into the depths of God and brings out what God planned all along.”
Meaning:
Once your perspective and expectations shift, your actions must shift too.Faith is not just believing differently — it’s living differently.
The Spirit reveals God’s plans so that we can participate in them. That means acting in alignment with what God has shown, not what fear dictates.
For Believers:
If the Spirit is in you, you already have the equipment to move differently. You’re not blind; you’re being guided. Live like someone who sees.
For Seekers:
You may not have all the answers yet, but you can start by responding to what’s stirring in your heart. That response isthe beginning of faith.
Practical Application:
Obey what God reveals — even if it’s uncomfortable.
Stop flitting on the surface; go deep in prayer, service, and community.
Move from information to transformation.
Let your choices reflect your new vision.
🌬️ TAKEAWAY:
To get behind the veil means to live with spiritual consciousness — aware of God’s presence, purposes, and power in every situation. You can’t graduate in faith if you never leave the diving board. So when God nudges — or pushes — you, relax and trust. You’ll come up stronger, wiser, and ready to see what God has been preparing all along.
✝️ Summary for All:
Young people: Don’t just go with trends; go for truth.
Adults: Don’t get stuck in what was; God is still doing new things.
Christians: The Spirit is your advantage — live like you have divine insight.
Non-Christians: God’s invitation is for you too — to see life from the inside out, beyond the surface.
