📖 SERMON TITLE: Get Over Yourself and Become PT II
Text: 2 Corinthians 12:7–11 (NLT)General Theme: Hidden MannaSpecial Occasion: Graduation Sunday 🎓
💡 BIG IDEA:
Becoming your full self—your God-Self—requires that you lay down pride, embrace your spiritual authority, and learn to grow through what humbles you. Maturity isn’t about having it all together—it’s about knowing where your strength really comes from.
🔑 SERMON POINTS & PRACTICAL APPLICATION
1. EXERCISE YOUR HUMILITY (vv.7–8)
“To keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh...”
Explanation:Paul had incredible spiritual insight, but he also had a thorn—a constant struggle that kept him grounded. He begged for it to be taken away, but God allowed it to remain so that Paul would remember to depend on God, not himself.
Practical Takeaway:
Graduates & young adults: Don’t confuse achievement with identity. Stay teachable, even when you're celebrated.
Adults: That challenge you're facing may be God's way of keeping your heart soft and your focus clear.
Everyone: God uses humility to protect you from becoming your own idol.
2. EXERCISE YOUR GOD-SELF (vv.9–10)
“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”
Explanation:God didn’t remove the struggle—He revealed the divine strength inside it. Your God-Self isn’t the perfect version of you—it’s the grace-filled, Spirit-empowered you who keeps going in spite of the struggle.
Practical Takeaway:
Graduates: You are not just your grades or gifts. You are a vessel of power, even when you feel powerless.
Adults: Your most vulnerable moments can become your most impactful testimonies.
Everyone: When you are weak, the God in you shows up strong. Lean into that power.
3. EXERCISE YOUR AUTHORITY (v.11)
“I am not at all inferior… even though I am nothing at all.”
Explanation:Paul reminds the Corinthians that while he may appear “lesser” to some, he is chosen and carries spiritual authority. Knowing your place in God doesn’t require applause—it requires awareness.
Practical Takeaway:
Graduates: You don’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. You’re not behind—you’re chosen.
Adults: Stop apologizing for being called. Step fully into your lane.
Everyone: Authority isn’t about dominance—it’s about walking boldly in who God says you are.
🪞KEY TERMS:
Thorn: A reminder that you need God, even when you're gifted.
God-Self: The version of you that lives by grace, not ego.
Authority: Not control over others, but confidence in your divine assignment.
Chosen: You’ve been selected with purpose and placed with intention.
🏁 FINAL REFLECTION:
You don’t become who God made you to be by pretending you have no flaws. You become by embracing your weakness, walking in grace, and moving in your divine authority.
So this Graduation Sunday, whether you're finishing school or just starting over in life—hear this truth:
Get over yourself. And step into who you’re becoming.
🙏 This week, reflect on:
What’s humbling me right now that I’ve been trying to hide or escape?
How is God’s strength showing up in my weakness?
Where do I need to step into my authority instead of shrinking back?
