SERMON NOTES WITH APPLICATION

“I WANT TO GET BEHIND THE VEIL” PT II

1 Corinthians 2:11–16 (NLT)Theme: Hidden MannaFollows: I Want To Get Behind The Veil Pt. I

🌅 CENTRAL IDEA

Getting behind the veil is about learning to think, see, and live from a spiritual place — guided by God’s Spirit, not the world’s system. The Holy Spirit gives us access to God’s thoughts, wisdom, and will.We don’t just want information about God — we want intimacy with God.

To live that way, we must:1️⃣ Create actions that align with our new spiritual perspective.2️⃣ Confront life’s challenges as opportunities for growth.3️⃣ Cultivate ourselves daily through the Spirit’s guidance.

POINT 1: CREATE ACTIONS THAT ALIGN WITH YOUR PERSPECTIVE (vv. 11–12)

“No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit... And we have received God’s Spirit... so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.”

Meaning:

When God gives you a new way of seeing, you must create new actions that fit that vision. You can’t claim a spiritual perspective but live by worldly patterns. The Spirit doesn’t just inform — the Spirit transforms.

For Believers:

If you’ve received God’s Spirit, start living like someone who knows God’s mind. That means moving with divine confidence, making choices that reflect God’s wisdom, not fear or trend.

For Seekers:

God’s Spirit wants to show you how loved you are and how much purpose you have. You don’t have to have all the answers — just be open to the idea that there’s more to life than what you can see.

Practical Application:

  • Ask daily: “Do my actions match what I say I believe?”

  • Make time for the Spirit — prayer, Scripture, stillness — before making big decisions.

  • Choose peace over panic, purpose over popularity.

POINT 2: CONFRONT CHALLENGES AS OPPORTUNITIES (vv. 13–14)

“We do not use words that come from human wisdom... people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths... it all sounds foolish to them.”

Meaning:

The Spirit helps you see problems as possibilities.Spiritual growth happens when we stop avoiding the hard things and start letting God redefine them. What looks foolish or impossible to others often becomes the very place where God reveals His power.

For Believers:

Don’t run from struggle — reinterpret it.The obstacle might be your Beth Block moment — the push that gets you off the diving board and into your destiny.Remember: discomfort is often the doorway to discernment.

For Seekers:

If faith sounds strange or hard to understand, don’t dismiss it — stay curious.Sometimes the very thing that doesn’t make sense right now will make sense later when you look back and see what God was building in you.

Practical Application:

  • When life gets hard, ask: “What is God showing me through this?”

  • Replace complaining with curiosity.

  • Trust that every “push” is preparation for your next level.

POINT 3: CULTIVATE YOURSELF (vv. 15–16)

“Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things... But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.”

Meaning:

To “cultivate” means to develop, nurture, and grow what God planted in you.Having the mind of Christ means shaping your habits, thoughts, and emotions to reflect His nature — grace, humility, discernment, and love.

For Believers:

You already have the mind of Christ — but it must be trained. That means intentional spiritual discipline: prayer, study, community, and self-reflection.Don’t let your gift grow wild; cultivate it.

For Seekers:

You can start cultivating your life right where you are — by seeking peace, compassion, and understanding.Spiritual growth starts with awareness: “There’s more in me that God wants to bring out.”

Practical Application:

  • Invest in your spiritual health like you invest in your goals.

  • Practice discernment — every voice isn’t from God.

  • Spend time with people and spaces that nurture your growth.

  • Remember: You have the mind of Christ — think higher, live wiser.

🌬️ TAKEAWAY:

Getting behind the veil is about alignment, awareness, and growth. The Holy Spirit gives us access to divine wisdom so we can act, see, and live differently. We don’t need the world’s approval — we have God’s mind.

“The Spirit dives deep, but only those willing to go deep can see what’s beneath.”

So — create actions that reflect God’s view, confront challenges with faith, and cultivate yourself to live out God’s purpose.

✝️ Summary for All:

  • Young people: Build habits now that match your purpose later.

  • Adults: Let God reframe what’s frustrating — it may be forming you.

  • Christians: Live like you truly have the mind of Christ.

  • Non-Christians: Don’t settle for surface living — the Spirit invites you deeper.
