“Worship: God’s Positioning System (GPS)” – PT II
Psalm 113 (MSG)Year Theme: HIGH AND LIFTED UP
BIG IDEA (For Everyone)
Worship reorients our lives because it reminds us who God is and how God works.
Just like GPS tells you your location and direction, worship helps you remember:
• God is present• God is in control• God is actively lifting people up
When we worship, our lives become aligned with God’s higher perspective.
1. GOD IS FOREVER PRESENT (vv.1–3)
What’s Happening
The psalm calls God’s servants to praise from dawn to dusk and from east to west.
This means worship isn’t limited to one place or time. God’s presence extends across every moment of life.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
You’re never outside the reach of God’s presence.
Practical Application
Christian: Let worship shape your entire day, not just church moments.
Non-Christian: Gratitude and reflection create emotional and spiritual grounding.
Gen Z / Millennials: Start and end your day remembering what matters most.
Families: Build daily habits of gratitude and encouragement.
Black Community Word: Our ancestors worshiped through hardship because they knew God was present even in struggle.
This Week: Begin each morning with one moment of gratitude or reflection.
2. GOD IS SOVEREIGN (vv.4–5)
What’s Happening
God is described as higher than any nation or power and enthroned above everything.
God’s sovereignty means God’s authority is not limited by politics, culture, or circumstances.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
What feels overwhelming to us is never beyond God’s control.
Practical Application
Christian: Trust God’s authority even when life feels uncertain.
Non-Christian: Recognizing a bigger perspective reduces fear and anxiety.
Professionals / Leaders: Leadership improves when we remember we’re not the ultimate authority.
Gen Z Word: Don’t let temporary situations define your future.
Black Community Word: Faith has sustained generations because we believed God was greater than systems of oppression.
This Week: When stress rises, remind yourself of something bigger than your current problem.
3. GOD REIGNS (vv.6–7)
What’s Happening
God sees heaven and earth and lifts the poor and forgotten from the dust.
This is a powerful picture of God’s reign:God rules not by domination, but by lifting people up.
God specializes in restoring dignity and creating new possibilities.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
God’s reign is revealed when the overlooked are lifted and restored.
Practical Application
Christian: Worship should lead to compassion and justice.
Non-Christian: A meaningful life includes helping others rise.
Gen Z Word: Elevation isn’t just personal success—it’s collective progress.
Black Community Word: God has always lifted communities others tried to overlook.
This Week: Encourage, support, or invest in someone who feels overlooked.
BIG PICTURE TRUTH
Psalm 113 teaches that God reigns from above yet works from below.
God sees the forgotten, lifts the humble, and restores dignity.
That’s why worship matters—it reminds us that our lives are part of a larger story of restoration and hope.
FINAL WORD
Worship keeps your life aligned with truth.
It reminds you:
• God is present• God is sovereign• God reigns by lifting people up
When you stay aligned with that truth, you begin to transcend fear, limitation, and circumstance.
You begin living high and lifted up.
