Those people are on a dark spiral downward. But if you think that leaves you on the high ground where you can point your finger at others, think again. Every time you criticize someone, you condemn yourself. It takes one to know one. Judgmental criticism of others is a well-known way of escaping detection in your own crimes and misdemeanors. But God isn’t so easily diverted. He sees right through all such smoke screens and holds you to what you’ve done.
Romans 2:1-2 (MSG)
Being “right” can feel powerful, but Romans 2:1–2 (The Message) warns us that judgment often hides Our Own Blindspots. God’s truth sits High And Lifted Up, not to shame us, but to expose what we can’t see from ground level. Knowing Your Blindspots is an act of focus, because clarity requires humility before it produces growth. For Black people and our communities, this is essential work—we can’t afford borrowed righteousness or unexamined habits when healing is on the line. When we stop performing judgment and start practicing honesty, our prayers carry more weight. Elevated vision doesn’t come from comparison; it comes from reflection. This word invites every generation to rise higher by seeing clearer and living truer.
