“ELEVATE: THE VIEW IS DIFFERENT UP HERE”
Luke 19:1–10 (KJV)Year
LEADERSHIP DAY
Theme: HIGH AND LIFTED UP
BIG IDEA (For Everybody)
Sometimes nothing changes except your position—and suddenly everything looks different.
Elevation isn’t about ego. It’s about perspective, access, and transformation.
POINT 1: GET BEYOND YOUR CONTAINERS AND FOCUS (vv.1–4)
What’s Happening
Zacchaeus is blocked:
By the crowd
By his reputation
By his size
Instead of quitting, he changes his vantage point. He climbs a tree—undignified, risky, intentional.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
If your environment limits your vision, change your position—not your purpose.
Practical Application
Christian: Faith sometimes looks like holy boldness.
Non-Christian: Growth often requires breaking social norms.
Gen Z Word: Don’t let systems decide what you get to see.
Black Community Word: We’ve always had to find higher ground to see possibility.
This Week: Identify one limiting container (habit, space, mindset) and rise above it.
POINT 2: GET BEYOND YOUR CAPACITY AND POSITION YOURSELF (vv.5–8a)
What’s Happening
Jesus looks up.Elevation attracts attention.
Zacchaeus’s positioning creates an encounter that leads to:
Relationship
Accountability
Change
Elevation leads to responsibility.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
Where you place yourself matters.Positioning creates opportunity.
Practical Application
Christian: God responds to intentional pursuit.
Non-Christian: Opportunity often meets preparation.
Families / Professionals: Growth requires strategic placement, not just desire.
Black Community Word: We position ourselves not just for access—but for impact.
This Week: Put yourself in one space that stretches you upward (learning, leadership, service).
POINT 3: GET BEYOND WHAT SEPARATES AND FLOW (vv.8–10)
What’s Happening
Transformation doesn’t stop at belief—it moves into behavior.Zacchaeus restores, gives, and repairs harm.
Jesus names it: salvation has come to this house.
Flow follows elevation—like water pulled by gravity.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
Real elevation shows up in how you treat people. When vision changes, generosity flows.
Practical Application
Christian: Salvation reshapes priorities.
Non-Christian: Integrity restores trust and community.
Gen Z Word: Growth is proven by action, not vibes.
Black Community Word: Healing includes repair, justice, and restoration.
This Week: Make one move that repairs a relationship or redistributes good.
BIG PICTURE TRUTH
Zacchaeus didn’t become someone new—he became more himself.
Elevation didn’t remove him from people;it returned him to community with clarity.
FINAL WORD
If you want a new view, you may need a new height.
Get above distractions.Position yourself wisely.Let growth flow through you.
The view really is different up here. And so are you.
