Show us your unfailing love, Lord, and grant us your salvation. I will listen to what God the Lord says; he promises peace to his people, his faithful servants—but let them not turn to folly. Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land. Love and faithfulness meet together; righteousness and peace kiss each other. Faithfulness springs forth from the earth, and righteousness looks down from heaven. The Lord will indeed give what is good, and our land will yield its harvest. Righteousness goes before him and prepares the way for his steps.
Psalm 85:7-13 (NIV)
What does it look like when a community decides to look up instead of giving in to despair? Psalm 85:7–13 (NIV) answers that question by lifting our Focus toward a God whose salvation is always near and whose glory still dwells among the people. When love and faithfulness meet, and righteousness and peace kiss, heaven isn’t just elevated—it becomes active in everyday life. For Black people and our communities, when we look up, we will see a vision of restoration to our rightful place as the origins of creation and civilization, one that refuses to settle for mere survival and instead reaches for wholeness and dignity. Being High And Lifted Up here means aligning our Focus with what God is already growing from the ground up in and through us. As we keep our eyes on what is right and good, our hands gain confidence to walk forward in purpose. This word spans generations, inviting everyone to stay Focused on God’s promise, because when our vision is lifted, our future begins to take shape.
