Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
James 4:7-10
What if the real battle isn’t outside of you but competing for your attention within you? James 4:7–10 (KJV) teaches that Focus begins with surrender—submit to God, resist what drains you, and draw near with intention. To live High And Lifted Up means choosing alignment over ego and clarity over chaos. For Black people and our communities, this is power: we don’t have to carry everything when God is inviting us to come closer and stand stronger. When humility shapes your Focus, elevation becomes a result, not a chase. Clean hands and a centered heart give your work weight and your dreams direction. This word speaks across generations, calling all of us to come low before God so we can rise with purpose.
