After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.
Revelation 4:1-2
The text reminds us that when heaven opens, it opens upward, calling our Focus higher than the noise, the trauma, and the distractions of the ground level. John hears the voice say, “Come up hither,” because elevation always requires intention—Focus is a decision before it is a feeling. To be “High and Lifted Up” is not about escape, but about perspective: seeing God on the throne reframes how we see our calling, our community, and ourselves. For Black people especially, Focus is a sacred act—choosing vision over survival, promise over limitation, destiny over history, trying to box us in. When the Spirit lifts John, he doesn’t lose responsibility; he gains clarity, and clarity produces courage to put hands to what God has already spoken. This is an invitation for every generation—Boomer, Millennial, Gen Z, believer or skeptic—to look up, lock in, and move forward with holy confidence. As the year begins, let your Focus rise with your faith, because what God reveals from above is meant to be lived out right here on earth.
