I cried unto thee, O LORD:
I said, Thou art my refuge
and my portion in the land of the living.
Psalm 142:5
David was hiding in a cave when he said this—not shining on a throne, but pressed, overwhelmed, and feeling forgotten. Yet the Hidden Manna in this verse is that even in dark places, David discovered a light that couldn’t be taken from him: God Himself. Shine means realizing that your glow doesn’t come from where you are—it comes from who holds you. When David called God his refuge, he was saying, “The cave isn’t my home—God is.” And when he called God his portion, he was saying, “Even if I have nothing else, I still have everything I need.” Today, let this truth brighten your spirit: you can shine even in tight spaces because God is your shelter, your source, and your steady light. Lift your head—your glow is not situational; it’s spiritual.
