Series: LOOK UP
“WHERE ARE YOU LOOKING?” – PT II
Luke 24:1–8 (KJV)Year Theme: HIGH AND LIFTED UP
BIG IDEA (For Everyone)
It’s not just what you see—it’s how you’re looking.
You can be faithful, prepared, and intentional…and still miss what God is doing if your perspective is off.
When you look up, you don’t just see differently—you live differently.
1. LOOKING WITH EXPECTATION… NOT ASSUMPTION (vv.1–3)
What’s Happening
They came expecting death. They brought spices. They assumed the story was over.
But God had already moved the stone.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
Don’t let yesterday’s assumptions block today’s reality.
Practical Application
Christian: Expect God to move—even if it doesn’t look like it did before.
Non-Christian: Stay open—life doesn’t always unfold how you predict.
Gen Z / Millennials: Don’t box your future based on past experiences.
Professionals: Growth requires adjusting expectations when things shift.
Black Community Word: We’ve learned to hope beyond what history tried to limit.
This Week: Approach one situation with expectation instead of assumption.
2. LOOKING THROUGH FEAR… NOT FROZEN BY IT (vv.4–5)
What’s Happening
They were confused. They were afraid. But heaven was still speaking.
Fear was present—but it didn’t stop the message.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
Fear can show up—but it doesn’t get to take over.
Practical Application
Christian: Don’t let fear silence what God is saying.
Non-Christian: Fear is natural—but it shouldn’t control your next move.
Gen Z Word: Feel it—but don’t let it freeze you.
Families: Fear is part of transition—not the end of the journey.
Black Community Word: We’ve had to move forward even while afraid—and still made impact.
This Week: Move forward in one area—even if you feel uncertain.
3. LOOKING UP TO REMEMBER… NOT JUST REACT (vv.6–8)
What’s Happening
“He is not here—He is risen.”
They had already heard this…but they forgot until they were reminded.
The shift happened when they remembered.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
What you remember shapes how you respond.
Practical Application
Christian: Go back to what God already said about your life.
Non-Christian: Truth doesn’t change—even when circumstances do.
Gen Z Word: Don’t let your current mood erase your bigger story.
Professionals: Stay anchored in vision, not just results.
Black Community Word: Remembering where God brought us from fuels where we’re going.
This Week: Write down and revisit one promise, truth, or lesson you need to hold onto.
BIG PICTURE TRUTH
“They came looking for a body…but had to lift their eyes to see a promise.”
FINAL WORD
Stop looking:
at what used to be
at what didn’t work
at what you assumed
Start looking:
with expectation
through fear
up to remember
Because…
Where you’re looking determines what you’re living.
And when you look up—you step into a life that is high and lifted up.
