Series: LOOK UP

“WHERE ARE YOU LOOKING?” – PT I

Luke 24:1–8 (KJV)Year Theme: HIGH AND LIFTED UP

BIG IDEA (For Everyone)

You can be faithful, prepared, and intentional…and still be looking in the wrong place.

Where you’re looking determines what you’re living.

When you look up, your perspective shifts—and your life follows.

1. PREPARED… YET POSITIONED TO PIVOT (vv.1–3)

What’s Happening

They came ready—with spices, with a plan, with intention. But God had already moved the stone.

They prepared for death… but God had already brought life.

Cliff Note (Plain Talk)

Good preparation doesn’t always equal right perspective.

Practical Application

  • Christian: Stay faithful—but stay flexible when God moves differently.

  • Non-Christian: Even the best plans need adjustment when reality changes.

  • Gen Z / Millennials: Be ready—but don’t be rigid.

  • Professionals: Success requires the ability to pivot when things shift.

  • Black Community Word: We’ve always had to pivot and still press forward—God meets us in that.

  • This Week: Be open to shifting your approach when things don’t go as planned.

2. PUZZLED… YET POISED FOR POSSIBILITY (vv.4–5)

What’s Happening

They were confused. They were afraid. But heaven was speaking in the middle of it.

Confusion didn’t cancel what God was doing.

Cliff Note (Plain Talk)

Just because you don’t understand it doesn’t mean God isn’t in it.

Practical Application

  • Christian: Don’t panic in confusion—listen for God’s voice.

  • Non-Christian: Uncertainty is often where growth begins.

  • Gen Z Word: It’s okay to not have it all figured out.

  • Families: Fear doesn’t mean failure—it means you’re in transition.

  • Black Community Word: We’ve learned to move forward even when things didn’t make sense.

  • This Week: Don’t let confusion stop you—stay open to what’s unfolding.

3. PROMISED… YET PROGRESSING IN HIS TIMING (vv.6–8)

What’s Happening

“He is not here—He is risen.”

They had already been told this…they just forgot.

The issue wasn’t the promise—it was the memory.

Cliff Note (Plain Talk)

God didn’t forget—you did.

Practical Application

  • Christian: Revisit what God has already spoken over your life.

  • Non-Christian: Truth doesn’t change just because circumstances do.

  • Gen Z Word: Don’t let your situation rewrite your story.

  • Professionals: Stay anchored in vision when results take time.

  • Black Community Word: Our strength has always come from remembering what God has done.

  • This Week: Write down and reflect on one promise or truth you need to remember.

BIG PICTURE TRUTH

They were doing the right things…but looking in the wrong place.

“They came looking for a body…but had to lift their eyes to see a promise.”

FINAL WORD

It’s not just what you see—it’s how you’re looking.

So:

• Stop looking where life used to be• Stop looking at yesterday’s reality• Start looking where God is moving

Because when you look up…you don’t just see differently—you live differently.
