“SHIFT YOUR PERSPECTIVE” – PT I
Colossians 3:1–4 (TPT)Year Theme: HIGH AND LIFTED UP
BIG IDEA
You don’t rise by accident—you rise by perspective.
If you change what you’re focused on,you change how you live.
This isn’t about escaping life—it’s about seeing life from a higher place.
1. TO THAT WHICH RAISES YOUR FOCUS (v.1)
What’s Happening
You’ve already been raised with Christ—so now aim higher.
Your position has changed… your focus needs to catch up.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
If your focus stays low, your life will too.
Practical Application
Christian: Keep your attention on what reflects God’s power and purpose.
Non-Christian: What you focus on shapes how you experience life.
Gen Z / Millennials: Don’t let distractions define your direction.
Professionals: Elevation requires intentional focus, not just effort.
Black Community Word: Even when life tried to push us down, we learned to look higher—and still rise.
This Week: Shift your focus from what’s draining you to what’s developing you.
2. TO THAT WHICH SHAPES YOUR BECOMING (vv.2–3)
What’s Happening
Fill your mind with higher realities—not just everyday distractions.
What you think about consistently shapes who you become.
Your old life is no longer your definition—you are evolving into something new.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
What you feed your mind will form your life.
Practical Application
Christian: Be intentional about what you allow to shape your thinking.
Non-Christian: Growth starts with changing what you dwell on.
Gen Z Word: Protect your mental space—everything doesn’t deserve access.
Families: What’s normalized in your environment shapes your future.
Black Community Word: Our becoming has always been shaped by resilience, vision, and faith.
This Week: Replace one negative or limiting thought pattern with something life-giving.
3. TO THAT WHICH AFFIRMS YOUR IDENTITY (v.4)
What’s Happening
Your life is now hidden in Christ—and your true identity will be revealed.
Who you are is not based on your past, your mistakes, or others’ opinions.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
You’re not who life said you were—you’re who God says you are.
Practical Application
Christian: Live from your identity, not for it.
Non-Christian: Your identity is deeper than your circumstances.
Gen Z Word: Don’t let labels define your worth.
Professionals: Confidence grows when identity is clear.
Black Community Word: We carry legacy, strength, and purpose beyond what society has tried to define.
This Week: Affirm who you are becoming—not who you used to be.
BIG PICTURE TRUTH
Having a higher perspective doesn’t disconnect you from life—it empowers you to live it better.
Looking up helps you:
Think clearer
Live stronger
Move with purpose
FINAL WORD
You don’t rise by chance—you rise by what you choose to focus on.
So:
• Raise your focus• Guard your becoming• Affirm your identity
Because when you shift your perspective…you don’t just see life differently—
you rise into it.
