“BREATHE: NEW LIFE”
John 20:19–23; II Corinthians 5:17 (AMP)Year Theme: HIGH AND LIFTED UP
BIG IDEA (For Everyone)
You can be alive—but not breathing right.
Jesus doesn’t just show up to comfort you—He shows up to breathe into you, send you, and change you.
New life isn’t just survival. It’s spiritual oxygen that empowers purpose, sustains you, and transforms you.
1. YOU ARE SENT WITH PURPOSE (John 20:19–21)
What’s Happening
The disciples are locked in fear—but Jesus still shows up and sends them.
Locked doors don’t stop divine assignments.
Jesus doesn’t wait for perfect conditions—He sends them right where they are.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
Where you are doesn’t cancel who you are.
Practical Application
Christian: You are God’s representative—your life carries purpose.
Non-Christian: Your life is not random—you have something to contribute.
Gen Z / Millennials: You don’t need perfect conditions to start moving.
Black Community Word: We’ve always been sent into spaces that weren’t built for us—and still made impact.
This Week: Step into one opportunity you’ve been hesitating on.
2. YOU ARE SUSTAINED BY HIS PRESENCE (John 20:22–23)
What’s Happening
Jesus breathes on them and says, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”
This isn’t hype—it’s life support.
Just like oxygen fuels the body,God’s Spirit fuels your life.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
What God breathes into you is what keeps you going.
Practical Application
Christian: Depend on God’s presence, not just your own strength.
Non-Christian: You need more than willpower—you need something deeper to sustain you.
Gen Z Word: Stop running on empty—refill your soul.
Families / Professionals: Burnout happens when you’re trying to live without renewal.
Black Community Word: Our survival has always been sustained by something deeper than circumstances—God’s presence.
This Week: Take intentional time to pause, breathe, and reconnect spiritually.
3. YOU ARE SET FREE TO BE MADE NEW (2 Corinthians 5:17)
What’s Happening
“If anyone is in Christ… they are a new creation.”
This is not surface change—this is complete transformation.
Old identity, old patterns, old thinking—gone.New life begins from the inside out.
Cliff Note (Plain Talk)
You are not your past—you are your new life.
Practical Application
Christian: Walk in your new identity, not your old history.
Non-Christian: Change is possible—real transformation is real.
Gen Z Word: You don’t have to stay who you used to be.
Families: Growth requires letting go of old versions of yourself.
Black Community Word: New life includes healing, restoration, and redefining identity beyond what society has said.
This Week: Release one old mindset or label you’ve been holding onto.
BIG PICTURE TRUTH
Breathing is not optional—it’s essential.
Spiritually:
Oxygen = life
Breath = Spirit
Exhale = purpose
You inhale God’s presenceso you can exhale purpose into the world.
FINAL WORD
Jesus didn’t just come to visit you—He came to breathe into you.
So now:
• You are sent with purpose• You are sustained by His presence• You are set free to be made new
You’re not just alive…you’ve been breathed into.
Now the question is:
Will you keep holding your breath…or will you live?
