SPRING FORTH NOW - DAILY MEDITATION
And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain. So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees, And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not. And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel. And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
I Kings 18:41-46
The difficulty and complexities of our circumstances, in particular as we seek to end anti-Blackness in exchange for justice and equality due, begs for good news. If we are not careful, any news can and will be good news whether or not it fully addresses the indignity suffered. The signs and even wonders from our protests, testing the proposition of equality and justice due to all humanity, cannot be the conclusion but instead the evolvement of the pathway forward. The long entrenched culture of anti-Blackness, both conscious and unconscious, cannot be wiped away with a statement, an event, or an offering of crumbs. We cannot be distracted or diverted from the struggle of dignity and the value of our Blackness by gestures of short-term benefits, satisfying the times and creating a more comfortable space in which the indignity suffered can continue to thrive. As evidence, the NASCAR’s show of public support for Bubba Wallace and the Black Lives Matter movement, signs and wonders, was very short term and in no way went to the heart of the issue of recognizing and embracing Blackness. Just today, the FBI report indicates that the noose found in Bubba Wallace’s stall had been there since October 2019 and was not intended for him, nobody would have known he would be assigned to that stall and as an excuse for the noose being present, a manual device to lift the garage door. The issuing of such a statement without contention from NASCAR and all society, even the FBI is ridiculous. We must keep pressing, looking and seeking, for that which is the ultimate good news, the transformation of what is of our reality to that which should be. It is in the press that the best is brought out and letting up because of what appears to be the good news will not bring the transformation required and what we ultimately desire. Do not become satisfied with a new comfortableness, use it as incentive and fuel for the transformation of life to what it should be and not just what it can be. A lesson learned from the Prophet Elijah; as a result of a drought, Elijah had good news for King Ahab, that the drought was about to end and therefore, encouraged him to get ready for the abundance of rain. Elijah dispatches his servant to go up and look for the sign of the rain and he does so seven times and it was only until the seventh time he saw a cloud as small as a man’s hand and only then Elijah and King Ahab made their way forward. The good news is that transformation is coming but it is coming as a result of pressing and being persistent in seeking, diligently pursuing the transformation of life as it is and as a result, we Receive. Catch The Wind of God’s Spirit that is ever present, even in the difficulties and complexities of your life, and flow, diligently pursuing the pathway to your flourishing, keeping ever before you the sound of a heavy and abundant rain, focusing and preparing you to Receive!
