Then I gave them my report: “Face it: we’re in a bad way here. Jerusalem is a wreck; its gates are burned up. Come—let’s build the wall of Jerusalem and not live with this disgrace any longer.” I told them how God was supporting me and how the king was backing me up. They said, “We’re with you. Let’s get started.” They rolled up their sleeves, ready for the good work.
Nehemiah 2:17-18 (The Message)
When God said, “Let us,” He modeled the protocol for creating out of what is to what should be. God in the development and transformation of what He had created to a living order, earth, bought all of who God is in His diverse manifestations, order and resources to create humankind from that which existed. It is from this vantage point that God models for us Transformational Leadership. God gives us vision and invites us to join Him in the co-creation of the well-lived and joy filled life promised, however, He challenges us to action. The action required by God is our ability to take what He has given to us, by His leading and guiding, to transform our space in that which He has declared, ordained, and promised. Nehemiah saw the condition of Jerusalem and knew that His call, purpose and plan was to challenge the people to move from accepting what is to doing, creating that, which should be. By taking action on what is, Nehemiah invited them into a shared vision (co-creative relationship), shared responsibility and accountability (order), and a shared power (springing forth of what was inside of them) to transform Jerusalem from what it was to what it should be. Occupy Your Promise by taking up the mantle of Transformational Leadership challenging every one and everything in your space to share in what God is up to and to roll up their sleeves and get to work accomplishing what God has promised.
